Peer Reviewer Process
Nusantara: Journal of Law and Islamic Law employs a rigorous, double-blind peer review system designed to uphold the highest standards of scholarly integrity and impartiality.
-
Initial Editorial Screening
Upon submission, the Editor-in-Chief or an Associate Editor conducts a preliminary appraisal to verify that the manuscript falls within the journal’s scope, meets basic formatting requirements, and demonstrates sufficient scholarly merit. Manuscripts that fail to satisfy these criteria are desk-rejected, typically within two weeks of submission. -
Reviewer Assignment
Manuscripts passing the initial screening are anonymized to remove all author identifiers and then assigned to two to three expert reviewers. Reviewers are selected based on their subject-matter expertise, methodological competence, and absence of conflicts of interest. -
Double-Blind Evaluation
Both authors’ and reviewers’ identities remain concealed throughout the review process. Reviewers assess the manuscript’s originality, methodological rigor, legal reasoning, contribution to both conventional and Islamic legal scholarship, and alignment with the journal’s interdisciplinary focus. -
Reviewers’ Reports
Each reviewer submits a detailed report—typically within six to eight weeks—addressing:-
Significance and originality of the research
-
Clarity and coherence of argumentation
-
Soundness of legal analysis and use of sources (including Islamic primary texts and jurisprudential literature)
-
Appropriateness of research design and methodology
-
Recommendations for revision, acceptance, or rejection
-
-
Editorial Decision
Based on the reviewers’ evaluations and recommendations, the Editorial Board deliberates to reach one of the following decisions:-
Accept without revision
-
Accept with minor revisions
-
Revise and resubmit (major revisions)
-
Reject
-
-
Revision and Final Acceptance
Authors receive anonymized review feedback and are invited to submit a revised manuscript within a specified timeframe (usually 4–6 weeks). Revised submissions undergo further review by the original reviewers or by new reviewers if substantive changes warrant additional scrutiny. Final acceptance is granted once all reviewer and editorial concerns have been satisfactorily addressed. -
Copyediting and Publication
Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting, formatting, and proofreading before being scheduled for publication in the next available quarterly issue (January, April, August, or December).
This structured process ensures that each article published in Nusantara: Journal of Law and Islamic Law reflects scholarly excellence, methodological rigor, and meaningful contributions to both conventional jurisprudence and Islamic legal thought.
